Dr. Michael Vernon, MD FRCPC
Dr. Michael Vernon joined Waterloo Rheumatology in July 2024. Dr. Vernon grew up in Waterloo, Ontario, and completed his Bachelor of Science at Western University before earning his Medical Doctorate (M.D.) from the American University of the Caribbean in 2017. He then completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Roger Williams Medical Center in Rhode Island, where he received the "Intern of the Year" award in 2019 and the "Resident of the Year" award in 2021. Dr. Vernon went on to complete his Rheumatology Fellowship at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, where he served as Chief Rheumatology Resident in 2022-2023.
Dr. Vernon's clinical focus is on the diagnosis and treatment of systemic rheumatic diseases, including autoimmune inflammatory arthritis (such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Axial Spondyloarthropathies), systemic rheumatic diseases (such as systemic lupus, inflammatory myositis, and scleroderma), and vasculitis.
